Plastics processor Spectrum Plastics Group made its second acquisition within six months. This time it acquired most of the assets of Laser Light Technologies LLC at an undisclosed price.

In a press release on May 3, a Spectrum official in Alpharetta, Georgia stated that Laser Light, headquartered in Herman, Missouri, “has decades of expertise as a key supplier to global customers through customized laser processing systems and services. knowledge."

Spectrum has been a customer and partner of catheter-based programs in the Laser Light medical device industry. Spectrum President and CEO Thomas Sullivan stated in a press release that the acquisition "brings [Spectrum] leading laser processing capabilities for a variety of polymer and metal parts and assemblies."

"We are very pleased to be able to continue the responsiveness of [Laser Light CEO] Frank Hannan and his team for rapid development and large-scale production," Sullivan added.

Hannan stated in the press release that with Spectrum's global resources and the integrated technologies of the two companies, Laser Light "is in a good position to advance innovation and accelerate our customers' time to market and growth."

This is Spectrum's second transaction since it acquired PeelMaster Medical Packaging Corp. in Niles, Illinois in December. PeelMaster is a processor of aseptic flexible packaging, using materials such as Tyvek spunbond polyethylene to make pouches, head bags and die-cut lids.

Spectrum started in 2017 when Kohlberg & Co. LLC, a private equity firm, acquired Pexco LLC and merged it with its PPC Industries Inc. business. Since then, Spectrum has been acquiring companies in the custom and specialty plastic end markets, including medical, food, and defense.

AEA Investors purchased Spectrum less than a year after its launch. Spectrum made two acquisitions in 2018, acquiring Apex Resource Technologies Inc., an injection molding machine/tool ​​manufacturer, and Adam Spence Corp., a pipe extruder.

In total, Spectrum has more than 1,700 employees in more than 20 locations worldwide, covering 1 million square feet of manufacturing space. "Plastics News" ranked Spectrum's injection molding business 108th in North America, with estimated sales of 65 million U.S. dollars, and its pipe, profile and tube extrusion business ranked 94th with estimated sales of 26 million U.S. dollars.
